For Adults

Adult programs

At the Derby Public Library, we seek to provide programming with wide appeal to the community. Below you will find descriptions of regularly scheduled programming. Be sure to check our events calendar to see what's happening in the library.

Pinterest Parties

Are you on Pinterest? Do you pin away but are you afraid to try the projects you find? Join us for a Pinterest Party! We find a craft on Pinterest and we try to do it here first. Once we have a good idea of what it takes to complete the project, we bring the project to you. Pinterest Parties are held once a month on a Saturday at 10 a.m. We provide the materials, you provide the creativity. The projects are chosen to be able to be completed in one one-hour session, or to teach you how to complete the project on your own time.

Book Clubs

There are three active book clubs sponsored by the Derby Public Library. They are free and open for anyone to participate in. Our book clubs meet in the Frank Fanning Room in the library at the times and days indicated. Please check the events calendar for the most up-to-date information on meeting dates and titles for each club.

Joyful Page Turners

Joyful Page Turners is the library's original book club, and has been meeting regularly since May 2000. This is a general-interest book club, and the books the club reads run from general fiction to classics to non-fiction. Members of the club choose the books that will be read and take turns leading the discussions. This club generally meets at 6:45 p.m. the fourth Thursday of the month, except November because of Thanksgiving. The club does not meet in June, July or December.

Bemused Bibliophiles

A reading group for anyone wanting a daytime book club. We will set our sights on hot and popular books and engage in lively discussions. Bemused Bibliophiles meets at 1 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month.

Hauntingly Good Reads

This is a book club for those who are interested in books with a little twist of the unusual in them. We may run across zombies or witches or vampires, or we may just read about things that hint that something is just a little beyond what might be expected. Get a little taste of the paranormal when you join this book club at 7 p.m. the second Monday of each month.
